Sharing a Meal

Some of my fondest memories from childhood are of the most common, everyday occurrence of having dinner together. Every member of our family understood it was their responsibility to show up at the dinner table at 6:00 p.m. to share a meal; no excuses.

Along with enjoying a delicious meal prepared by the best cook, my mother, we shared stories from our day and discussed current events. There was a lot of laughter and some very serious discussions that went on during those meals – day after day, year after year. It taught me and my brothers that we should care about each other and the bigger world around us.

Flash forward to today.

I am a very fortunate person that sharing a meal with family and friends is something easily accomplished because we have the means. Just last night, we had dinner with a group of friends; great food along with wonderful conversation.

It was also a reminder for me to not forget about those who struggle to place food on the table for their families.

I am thankful that the company where I work also remembers that there are those in need. We recently participated with one of our manufacturers in a donation to an area Food Bank. The $1,500 donation will provide 5,000 meals. Yes… that is 5,000 meals! Amazing!

And each year at work, we have a silent auction where employees donate food items or gift baskets to raise money. Our donation goes to Christmas Cheer that sponsors various organizations who provide food for those in need.

But you know what? I can do more. It is as simple for me (or you) as making a donation. And this donation will bring nourishment and hopefully that wonderful sharing of a meal to other families.
